Rangers knew that a home tie with their bitter rivals was the prize if they could see off Cove Rangers last night.

And Defoe opened the scoring as Steven Gerrard’s men cantered to a 4-0 win.

The former England striker admits winning the league was a dream but he’s still hungry for more medals.

He said: “Was it an incentive knowing we had Celtic next? Of course it was.

“That’s the game you want and we’re delighted to progress. We’re looking forward to it, the club and the fans.

“If we can get the double then it will be brilliant. You want more medals. Every competition you play in, you want to win to get the trophy.

“For me, it was a massive dream come true to win a league. It’s always difficult to win a title as you have to be consistent and the best team.

“Having done that, it’s a great feeling and you want more.”

Defoe, 38, is out of contract in the summer but joked he feels good enough to play on for another FIVE YEARS!

He added: “The forwards are scoring goals, so you just have to focus on playing football, training every day and keeping sharp.

“And when the season is finished, then you decide what will happen.

“It’s well-documented how much I love it here and how much I enjoy playing in front of the supporters.

“I’ve missed that so much this season and to get the chance to play in front of them again would be special.

“It’s important to look after my body. I felt sharp although I haven’t started for such a long time but I felt fit, so you never know –  I might play another five years!

“That was my first start since December and I shanked one in the second half when I should have hit the target. But I was happy with the goal I got.

“It was important the lads who got a chance put on a good show to give the manager a selection headache.”
